Danish books (1701-1918) on demand – order PDFs at no charge

Due to the implementation of our new library system are we temporarily unable to deliver free PDFs of Danish books and printed musical scores (1701-1914). Information on when the service will resume is unavailable at the moment.

Due to a grant from the Ministry of Culture, from November 2012 until the end of 2014, the Royal Danish Library initiated a service offering all registered users the option of ordering free PDF copies of select Danish monographs printed 1701-1900 (normally only for reading room use).

The service became quite popular - app. 9,400 titles were digitized in the grant period - so it was decided to continue the service. Today books published up to 2018 are included.

In June 2015 the service was improved, implying that the result of the digitization process is presented to the users in two different qualities: one full-text searchable b/w PDF and one non-searchable colour PDF. Please note, that PDFs created before this date will be available only as searchable colour PDFs.

The patron receives a mail with links to the two versions; the same links are available in the library’s OPAC REX, and hence the digitizations can be used by all patrons.

Newspapers and periodicals are not included in the service. Danish books printed after 1918 can be included by agreement with the copyrights holder.

The Royal Danish Library reserves the right to reject an excessive number of orders from singular users (max. 5 per month) as well as orders where the private/non-commercial purpose is in doubt.
