Each year the most prominent press photographers in Denmark are celebrated with the Press Photo of the Year exhibition, and for the 10th year in a row, The Royal Danish Library will be hosting the display of the most outstanding snapshots of the year.

Press Photo of The Year 2019

This year the award for Press Photo of the year 2019 went to photo journalism student, Sarah Hartvigsen Juncher's photo capturing the Danish prime minister apologizing to the group of boys, who suffered severe abuse in their childhood at the government-run children's home 'Godhavn'.

The committees’ explanatory statement: “In his eyes, you see both the pain, the wound that cannot heal, and the redemption of finally receiving the acknowledgement that he and the others has fought for, for many years. The picture has omitted everything superfluous, and it is not until the second glance at the picture that you discover that it is in fact the Prime Minister embracing him. The visual composition amplifies the power of the communicated message where she can be considered, as the society as a whole – and that he is both himself and all of the rest just waiting to hear that little, big word: 'Sorry'."

Sports Photo of The Year 2019

The award for Sports Photo of The Year 2019 goes to photojournalist Signe Bidstrup for capturing four-times olympic swimmer, Jeanette Ottesen, pursuing the dream of finishing her career in Tokyo 2020 after becoming a mom. The coach seen in the picture is her husband Marco Laughran, so the dream has become a family project without help from Team Denmark or the Danish Swimming Federation.
