It is with immense pleasure that we are able to welcome Murray Perahia to The Black Diamond!

We are talking here about one of the real greats of piano playing. One of those who have made recordings that are benchmarks for both music-lovers and colleagues. Just listen, for example, to his 1976 recordings of Mozart piano concertos with the English Chamber Orchestra.

He was born in The Bronx, New York, and started to play the piano when only four years old with a teacher who allowed him to study one single work until he had reached perfection. From there, his path was clear – assisted by such names as Pablo Casals, Rudolf Serkin, Benjamin Britten, Peter Pears and, not least, Vladimir Horowitz – in other words, some of the greatest names in the history of music, into which he has well and truly inscribed his own name.

Programme and further information to follow.
