Three of Denmark’s great cultural institutions – DR, The Royal Library and Royal Danish Academy of Music – are holding a major international chamber music competition for the second time. The competition has been established so as to create more focus on Carl Nielsen’s chamber music by having it interpreted by the best young musicians from the entire world. It will be held from 15 to 19 October within the two categories string quartet and wind quintet. The two juries consist of leading chamber musicians from the whole world, with violinist Günther Pichler and oboist Bjørn Carl Nielsen as chairmen. The repertoire will – apart from Carl Nielsen – consist of well-known standard works for string quartet and wind quintet. In addition, a completely new work has been specially composed for the competition.

On Thursday 17 October, the semifinal for wind quintet will be held, and on Friday 18 October the semifinal for string quartet, in Dronningesalen on both days.

Six semifinalists will be selected for each day. The schedule will be published at the day before the semifinal. For the entire competition programme, go to
