The song was presumably composed at the end of 1923. A number of sketches can be dated to December. The song survives in no fewer than eight complete versions in Nielsen's hand, all from 1924; of these, five were printed while three are known only in manuscript.

This version was apparently made on a request of the local magistrate in Skibby. Nielsen sent the score to him with a letter dated 28 January 1924.

Date: 1924.

The only surviving source for this version is an undated sketch. However, a performance is documented in the programme for a gala concert at The Royal Theatre on 1 June 1924. A letter from Nielsen to Asger Wilhelm Hansen also refers to what must be assumed to be this version.
